The Best Way to Introduce Eggs to Your Baby

The Best Way to Introduce Eggs to Your Baby

Introducing allergenic foods is a significant step in your weaning journey and can cause the most anxiety among parents. The guidelines are that you can introduce allergenic foods from 6 months, and it is preferable to introduce allergenic foods one at a time so that if there is a reaction, we know which food caused the allergy.

Here is my guide on the best way to introduce eggs to your little one.

Start with Fully Cooked Boiled Eggs:

Eggs should be introduced to your baby's diet as fully cooked boiled eggs. Other forms, such as scrambled, should be avoided until your baby's tolerance has been tested. Begin by adding 1tbsp of fully cooked boiled egg to your baby's usual purée in the morning.

Gradual Increase in Consumption:
You should aim for at least one egg to be given over the course of the first week - give both egg white and yoke. I suggest that you offer 1tsp of fully cooked boiled egg on the first day then offer a second spoon 3 days later. As your baby gets older you can offer a whole egg in one sitting.

Early Introduction Benefits:
My advice is to introduce eggs early not just because of allergen introduction, but also so that your baby accepts the texture. The texture is very different to vegetable purées so as soon as you can, try to incorporate it into your baby’s diet. Early exposure can help your baby become familiar with various textures

Nutritional Value:
Eggs are a nutritional powerhouse, packed with protein, vitamins, and minerals essential for your baby's growth and development. Including eggs in your baby's diet provides valuable nutrients that support overall health and well-being.

Remember to monitor your baby closely for any signs of allergies or adverse reactions when introducing new foods. Every baby is different, so trust your instincts and consult with a healthcare professional if you have any concerns. By following these guidelines, you can introduce eggs to your baby's diet safely and effectively, laying the foundation for a lifetime of healthy eating habits.

Once you have successfully introduced eggs to your baby, you can incorporate them into their diet. Here are some of my favourite ways to prepare eggs for baby
