Summer is the perfect time for family adventures, but traveling with kids can present its own set of challenges. To make your trips smoother and more enjoyable, we’ve compiled some of our favorite travel hacks. These tips will help you keep snacks fresh, meals hot, and everyone happy while you're out and about.
Travel Hack 1: Keeping Apples Fresh
One of the best tricks to keep apples fresh while traveling is surprisingly simple and effective. Here’s how you can prevent those apple slices from turning brown:
- Peel and Slice: Start by peeling and cutting your apples into bite-sized pieces.
- Saltwater Soak: Submerge the apple slices in a bowl of salted water. Let them sit for about 10 minutes.
- Rinse and Dry: After soaking, rinse the slices with tap water and dry them off with a paper towel.
- Store Properly: Place the apple slices in an airtight portion pot. For added freshness, store these pots in our insulated cooler bag.
This method ensures that your apples remain crisp and appetizing for your little ones, no matter how long your journey is.
Travel Hack 2: Pre-Portion Snacks
Traveling with kids often means frequent snack breaks. Planning and preparing your snacks ahead of time can save you both time and stress:
- Plan Ahead: Prepare your snacks before your trip to avoid last-minute rushes and unnecessary purchases. Bring extra portions to handle any delays.
- Use Portion Pots: These are perfect for keeping snacks organized and easily accessible. I find that weaning pots are a great way to store dips and sauces as they are help in reducing clutter and making snacks easy to grab.
- Nutrient Variety: Pack a balanced mix of proteins, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to ensure your kids get all the nutrients they need.
- Food Flask: Our Mummy Cooks Food Flasks are ideal for carrying food. The 300ml flask suits babies and children, while the 450ml flask is great for teens and adults. These flasks keep food warm or cold for up to 12 hours.
By pre-portioning snacks, you can ensure that your children have healthy, convenient options readily available throughout the trip.
Travel Hack 3: Keep Baby Food Hot on the Go
Keeping your baby’s food warm while traveling can be tricky, but our food flask makes it easy. Our tips and video below are for taking pasta on the go but this works just as well with similar hot foods. Here’s a step-by-step guide to ensure your baby enjoys a hot meal on the go:
- Prep the Night Before: Prepare your marinara sauce at some point before your trip, place the mixture in a blender and blend until smooth. Freeze it in our 3 oz portion pots until needed.
- Boil and Store: On the morning of your trip, prepare your pasta and fill your food flask with boiling water.
- Heat and Mix: Take the frozen marinara sauce out of the freezer, heat it up, and mix it with the pasta.
- Keep it Hot: Remove the boiling water from your flask, then add the pasta mixture to your flask. Our food flask will keep your food hot for up to 12 hours.
Pack the food flask and any additional snacks or meals in our insulated cooler bag, ensuring you have hot, nutritious food ready whenever your little one needs it.
Traveling with kids doesn’t have to be stressful. With a little planning and the right tools, you can keep your children’s snacks fresh, meals hot, and everyone happy. We hope these travel hacks help make your summer adventures smooth and enjoyable. Happy travels!
