How much formula milk do I feed my 7 month old baby?

How much formula milk do I feed my 7 month old baby?

The topic of milk feeds is asked weekly on my Instagram Weekly Weaning Wednesday Q&A. Questions in relation to a particular age such as a 7 month old or a 9 month old are most frequent. In this advice article I have outlined the quantities of milk at each stage based on the advice from the HSE and NHS.

For more information on Milk feeds while weaning check out my previous article on the topic.

milk schedule for baby

From 6 Months:
Your six month old should be working towards 3 meals a day of about 2oz/30ml. You should aim to introduce the milk first leaving an hour gap between milk and solid foods.

Milk feeds should be in or around 900ml-1,100ml in a 24 hour period. If you find your baby is not taking their milk try adding it to food. Just don’t add it to food that will then be frozen as the milk will separate.

From 7 ½ Months
As you move towards more textured meals your baby may start to deplete their milk. At around seven and half months you can drop one bottle feed. If you have been offering a dream feed its likely that this is the one that you will drop.

From 9 Months:
At 9 months your baby can drop down to 2 or 3 bottles per day around 500ml in the 24 hour period. You can now offer a snack at mid-morning and mid-afternoon to keep them satisfied until their main meal.

Keep in mind that these are general guidelines, and it's crucial to consult with your health care professional for personalized advice based on your baby's growth, development, and individual needs. This information is for formula feed babies and does not relate to breastfeeding quantities or schedules.
