Introducing your baby to solid foods can often be a bit overwhelming, especially with all the conflicting advice out there. But I have plenty of recipes to try out at the very beginning. My top five baby first foods that will have your little one looking for more.
Your baby's first foods should be smooth and easy to digest; think very runny purées of a single fruit or vegetable. This allows your baby to get used to solid food without being overwhelmed. It also allows you to introduce new textures and flavours one at a time for the first week or so. After the initial week or 2 you can begin combining ingredients into puree
Here are some of my favourite first purées:
Sweet Potato Purée - Sweet potatoes are a fantastic first food for babies due to their smooth texture and naturally sweet taste. They're also loaded with essential nutrients like vitamin A and fiber, making them a nutritious choice for your little one. Simply steam or roast some sweet potatoes until they're soft, then mash them up and voila – you've got a delicious meal that your baby will love!
Melon and Avocado Purée - Avocados are not only creamy and delicious but also packed with healthy fats and nutrients that are essential for your baby's growth and development. Plus, their smooth texture makes them perfect for little mouths just starting out on solids. A simple quick recipe that requires no cooking at all.
Carrot Purée recipe - This Carrot Purée is a great first food to offer your weaning baby. The natural sweetness makes it a real treat, great as a dip served with finger food such as Homemade Oatcakes or whole pasta pieces; a healthy baby led weaning snack your whole family can enjoy.
Baked Apple and Cinnamon Purée Recipe - Apple and cinnamon Purée is a classic baby food for a reason – it's easy to digest, naturally sweet, and packed with vitamins and antioxidants. Plus, it's incredibly versatile and can be paired with a variety of other foods to create delicious flavour combinations. Simply peel and core some apples, then cook them until they're soft and mash them up into a smooth Purée.
Parsnip and Pear Purée - Last but certainly not least, this Parsnip and Pear Purée is a naturally sweet treat brimming with vitamins your weaning baby will love. Perfect as a first food for tinier tots, or offered as a dip with finger foods such as Biscotti for a baby led weaning treat for your little one to enjoy.
