When feeding your little ones while out and about, it is very important to keep their food at the right temperature to avoid the risk of bacteria. When it comes to the temperature of your baby's food, there are three important numbers to remember:
- The food has to be reheated to a piping hot 71°C
- To stay hot the food should not fall below 60°C during reheating as it then enters the cooldown phase.
- Lastly, It is also important to ensure the food is at least below 40°C before trying to serve it to your baby.
NB: Remember not to reheat food more than once and never refrigerate uneaten food.
When taking food on the go, you have two options:
Option 1: Carrying Cold Food
Firstly, you can carry your food cold in one of our food flasks this will mimic a fridge until you reach your destination. Then, decant the food from the flask into a microwavable container and reheat it to a piping hot 71°C. It can be very hard to tell the exact temperature of your food when out and about, so take our ThermoSpoon with you.
This spoon is designed specifically with safe feeding in mind and will tell you the temperature of your baby's food in just three seconds. Before serving, check the food’s temperature again, make sure the temperature is below 40°C before serving.
Option 2: Preparing Hot Food at Home
The second option is to cook the food beforehand at home and place it in one of our food flasks. To do this, prepare the food as usual, fill our food flask with boiling water, let it sit for five minutes, then remove the boiling water and add your food. We have shared a step-by-step guide on how to do this that you might find helpful.
Our food flask will keep your food hot for up to 12 hours. When you are ready to eat, test the food’s temperature first with our ThermoSpoon to ensure it is not too hot and enjoy!
