Eat seasonal produce this May! Incorporating seasonal fruit and vegetables into meals is really important as it provides new flavours and high nutritional value for you and your family. By doing so, you use fresh and flavoursome ingredients and are more likely to eat a variety of fruit and vegetables, ensuring your family gets a balanced mix ⚖
To top things, eating what's in season helps you shop more sustainability as you will support local produce and local farming 🌏
Below are my favourite veggies & fruit in season at the moment and some recipes that include them.
🍓 Strawberries: Packed with vitamins, fibre and high levels of antioxidants which may have benefits for greater heart health and blood sugar control
Strawberries when in season are the perfect finger food. Offer from six months making sure its ripe and soft. Offer whole that's not too small to place in their mouth. As they gain confidence you can slice it up.
Why not try a smoothie or ice pop with your fresh strawberries?
🌿 Asparagus: Contains fibre, folate and vitamins A, C and K and has the potential to improve digestion.
As an early stage purée try out my Asparagus and Mint purée a gorgeous thick and creamy purée, and the mint adds a level of freshness your little one will love.
