This naturally sweet Carrot and Pea Puree is a great first food your weaning baby is sure to love. Perfect to serve as a purée, or as a dip with finger foods such as whole cooked pasta pieces for a quick and tasty baby led weaning meal. Ideal to batch cook and freeze in single 1oz portions for a handy baby led weaning dip.
Cook time: 15 minutes
Makes: 10 1oz portions
Ingredients
2 large carrots
1 cup frozen peas
Method
- Prepare your steamer. Wash and peel and roughly chop the carrots.
- Add the carrots and peas to the steamer and cook for 10-15 minutes, until tender and cooked through.
- Once softened, blitz or mash the mixture* to the desired consistency, adding a little boiled water to thin as required.
- Serve warm or cold, or portion into 1oz pots and label before freezing for up to one month.
*You can also separate the vegetables here to make two separate purées, one carrot, one pea.
Weaning and Storage
4-6 months – Blended to Runny Puree
6-7 months - Smooth and slightly thicker puree, no lumps
7-8 months - Thicker puree with increased texture
8-9 months - Minced and mashed with soft lumps.
9-12 months – Minced and finely chopped.
