Homemade Basil Pesto
Forget about store-bought pesto, this homemade version is better. It's also the perfect finger food dip for your weaning baby!

 

This basil pesto is a really simple sauce to prepare and it can be used as a quick pasta meal or as a spread on a sandwich. Simple but delicious! Let the kids get involved in making this up as they will love to taste it at the end to make sure it's just right.

Cook time: 1 minute
Makes: 4 Adult portions

Ingredients

50g pine nuts, toasted 
Large bunch of basil leaves
½ garlic clove
35g Parmesan, grated
100ml extra virgin olive oil
Squeeze of lemon juice
Ground black pepper

Method

  1. Lightly toast the pine nuts and allow to cool.
  2. Add all ingredients to a blender or food processor and blend until combined.
  3. Season to taste and add additional olive oil if required.

Weaning and Storage
6 months+ - Use as a dip for finger foods such as chopped vegetables or pasta.
