This quinoa porridge is a great gluten free, healthy breakfast alternative for baby and family. Serve with fruit or yoghurt for a tasty protein packed fuelling family breakfast to kick start the day. This recipe can also make a perfect finger food for your weaning baby; simply serve with slices of fruit for dipping for a tasty baby led weaning meal.
Cook time: 5 minutes
Makes: 1 Adult portion
Ingredients
1 cup water or milk
1/3 cup quinoa flakes*
Method
- Pour the water or milk into a small saucepan. Place over medium heat and bring to the boil.
- Once boiling, add the quinoa flakes and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Remove from the heat, stir and leave to sit for 3 minutes before serving.
- Serve with toppings of choice; we love berries, flaxseed and yoghurt!
*Quinoa flakes can be hard to find but should be available in your local health food store.
** You can use regular quinoa here too, simply cook for 20 minutes at step 2.
Weaning and Storage
6-7 months - Smooth and slightly thicker puree, no lumps
7-8 months - Thicker puree with increased texture
8-9 months - Minced and mashed with soft lumps.
9-12 months – Minced and finely chopped.
