Beetroot and Plum Purée

This recipe is great when you are still on runny purees. After you have started with your root vegetable purees, a nice next step is to mix your vegetables with fruit to make it more palatable for your little one. Make sure to wear gloves when preparing the beetroot to reduce staining.

Cook time: 10-15 minutes
Makes: 4 portions

Ingredients
2 beetroot, peeled and diced into 1cm cubes
2 red plums, halved and destoned

Method

  1. Put the beetroot and plums in a small saucepan and just cover with water.
  2. Bring to the boil over a high heat then reduce the heat to low, cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes until beetroot is very soft.
  3. Place the beetroot and plums in a blender or food processor and process until smooth.

Weaning and Storage
4-6 months – Blended to Runny Puree
6-7 months - Smooth and slightly thicker puree, no lumps
7-8 months - Thicker puree with increased texture
8-9 months - Minced and mashed with soft lumps.
9-12 months – Minced and finely chopped.
